IDF jets target Hezbollah positions in Beirut as tensions escalate following deadly cross-border rocket fire.
On Friday, Israeli jets launched a targeted airstrike in Beirut, striking near key Hezbollah facilities in the Dahiyeh suburbs, a stronghold for the group in southern Beirut. Residents reported hearing a loud explosion, and a thick plume of smoke was seen rising over the city. Security sources informed Reuters that the strike hit close to Hezbollah’s operational centers.
This marks the second Israeli air raid on Beirut since the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah reignited last year. The strike came on the heels of heavy fighting between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Hezbollah militants, who had earlier launched a barrage of Soviet-era Katyusha rockets across the border into northern Israel.
The Israeli military stated that it had destroyed over 100 Hezbollah rocket launchers in one of the most intense assaults on Lebanon in the past year. The escalation follows days of growing tensions in the region, with fears of a broader conflict intensifying after a series of explosions on Tuesday and Wednesday killed 37 people and injured thousands. These blasts, triggered by pager and walkie-talkie devices, had a devastating impact across multiple locations in Lebanon.
